Wenlido (Self-defense workshop)

The term “wenlido” is a combination of “wen”, a shortened form of “women”, “li”, which translates to “strength” in Chinese, and “do”, meaning “the way” or “the method” in certain oriental languages. Thus, wenlido represents the path to strength for women. It is a psycho-physical system designed to promote personal safety based on feminist principles, which goes beyond the body to encompass safety in all intimate relationships.

Through this program, women are trained to defend themselves against violence and abuse, and classes are divided by age group, exclusively for women. The training includes the development of boundaries, non-violent communication, and practical techniques for self-protection. There are different courses available, including a two-day basic course, a seven-day advanced course, and a fifteen-day trainer course for those who aspire to become trainers.

From a select group of only 100 trainers across India, five are part of MJAS. These skilled trainers have not only been empowering rural girls in self-defense but have also extended their expertise to external organizations such as the Women Police Academy, Action Aid, and various engineering colleges throughout Rajasthan.
